My mate Frank and I slipped out near the mouth of Brisbane River this morning at 5.30am chasing banana prawns (Frank casting and me as the motorman). Caught about 3kilos of small to medium in first couple of hours but no large ones. Moved to another spot about 9.30am and straight away every cast resulted in 3 to 7 large banana prawns (20 to 23cm long). Wind got up to 20knts about 11 am still large prawns coming in. Headed for home soon after with 8 kilos.

Just a couple of questions?
Do you catch most of the prawns in shallow or deep water?
Is it better to throw around high or low tide?
And do you need to see any surface movement or just random throws?

DORO.

Water depth was 3.5 metres. Larger prawns were caught on top of the tide.
No surface movement we were the only boat there.

Exciting stuff huh? That's a good feed of prawns. Well done. My share of prawns from my outing with Scalem are already devoured and I am licking the lips at the thought of chasing some more. Nothing nicer than catching your own. It's a guarrantee of freshness. :)

Cheers,
