Hi,

Travelling over from the UK in a month or so, hopeing to do some fishing whilst we are there. Not fished for 15 years or so, so we are completely out of practice and have no idea of the tackle requirements.

We plan to do a bit of general saltwater creek / mangrove / pier fishing but have no idea what to buy.

Over here in the UK we have been recommended a good quality general purpose travel rod (it has to go in a suitcase), the Shimano 2.7m Exage STC Spinning series and the exage 4000ra shimano reel but we are unsure if they will be up to the job. Price wise its going to cost us $500 for two rods and reels so we want to get the correct gear.

One thing nagging at me is the reels take approximately 200 metres of 2kg line, which seems too light to me and obviously if i increase the lineweight the reel will have less line on it.

Any advice is appreciated,

John

Its a big place pom, what is the goods in Melbourne might see you smoked in Cairns. Bit more info and the ausfishers will steer you right.

What areas are you planning on fishing mate?
I have this mental picture of 200mts of 2kg string departing seawards rapidly if youre heading to the north.
cheers

Hi

We are looking at around the brisbane area. What would you recommend and are we best to wait until we get there?

Cheers for the replies.
