G'day

Well, I was on the water at about 430am, launched @ the port in the boat passage.

Headed out the river straight to mud and ended up finding some ok ground and some nice shows in about 7m of water.

Te winds were down for a comfortable trip out and after setting up my drift pattern, I threw out my floater rig and started working the plastics.

First fish in the boat was a small goldspot cod, followed by 3 undersize squire.
A little while later I had my first keeper in the boat, a squire going 38cm and a little while later had one that came in at 35.5cm, but I threw him back as it was too close for my liking. Also missed a few good hits, I can see a few winters mornings being spent over there.

I was working the north eastern and eastern sides of the island, and found some very nice ground to explore later on.

At around dawn there would have been about 30 boats that I could see just from the nor eastern corner... kinda crazy isn't it?

If anyone knows, what is the structure around the north eastern corner in 7 to 8M of water, it was near the trawler that was moored there this morning. There was a group of boats there so i imagine it would be one of the wrecks?

The trip back in was a bit bumpy but nothing too bad. The plastic I was using was a gulp 5'' Jerk shad in blue pepper neon. Jighead was TT 1/8 in 3/0H and 5/0H.

I was also out there this morning, doing a few drifts near the trawler.
It was my maiden outing with my new shimano starlo stix and Daiwa exceler 3000 which was very sucessful ;D , compared to previous Sp attempts.
Caught about 6 fish, mostly small, all of which were released to fight another day.
Most of which I didnt know what they were, 1 small squire, and what looked like a grinner at about 30cm. Do they get that big or was it something else? All fish were caught on gulps, 5" nuke chicken jerk shad and 3" minnow in the fluro yellow (forgot the proper name for this colour) . The run back to the river wasnt much fun in a 3.7M tinny , heading into a westerly breeze was limited to about 5 knots :(

G'day Hamish,

chances are we drifted right by eachother.

Yes, the grinners do get well over 40cm, so shances are you had one of them.

Only 5kts?? I charged back in my 12' tinny and was doing around 16kts.

I think I saw u. Did you have a mate with you, drifted east of the trawler then left around the outside?

not sure what time u went back, but it was a bit choppy for my tinny to travel at speed . I got back to the ramp not long before 8am. Cranked it up to WOT when I got to the river mouth, still a bit bouncy, but bareable.

G'day

No, I was fishing solo. had a big creamy coloured jacket on.

I stuck inside the trawler for the morning on that part of the island,

I would have gotten back to the ramp sometme just after 10,
