Adam, most people just between a 1000 to 2500 size reel, but as long as the outfit is balanced and it fels comfortable casting for extended periods. Its a personal choice. I mayself use 2000's or 2500 but am looking at the next reel being a 1000.

I use a Shimano Stradic 2500 on a 3-5kg Shimano Rack Raider and love it.
I've picked out my next reel already although it will be a while until I get it. It's a Team Daiwar SOL 2500.

Bream out fit: go the 1000 mate. Depends what you are fishing, baits or plackies.
I'm into plackies, so therefore 4lb braid and 4-6lb leader is the go for my set up. The symmtre or Stradic are good options, depends on your budget.
Good luck.
