Heading up that way for easter with the boat in tow and having never fished there before, Does anybody here know if theres any descent fishing areas (wrecks/reefs) between fraser and the mainland that are worth bouncing some bait over ? :-/

Try the Roy Rufus artificial reef eatern side of big woody island.

I fished it last easter and killed em..heaps of snapper sweetlip and reefies last easter....... just drift it with pillies and squid.

Depends what you want to catch. There are lots of macks that hang around the pier. Check out the tackle shop by the sports club - they have a wall of fame, with the biggest fish caught in the area with photos. Some of the best have been caught in the last few weeks.

standard paternoster rigs, plus maybe unweighted pilly floating in a berley tril

I fish down the 16 - 20mt deep line

Go to fraser Coast tackle and Bait on the esplanade, just up from the United sERVICE sTATION, gREAT GUYS WHO WILL POINT YOU IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

tHERE USED TO BE MAPS GOING AROUND OF THE LAYOUT OF THE rUFUS rEEF. sHOWED WHERE EACH STRUCTURE WAS SUNK ETC. sHOULD BE ABLE TO GET ONE IF YOU ASK AROUND UP THERE.

Bloody sticky caps lock key :)

Hi ashh i have been doing the HERVEY BAY thing for about 35 years i could almost say i have fished almost all of it. I have approx 300 gps marks in the area. Iam not sure what size boat you have, but yes give the artifical reef a go its a bit hit and miss though. There is a nice gravel patch between big woody and little woody great spot as the run slows its in the middle of the channel in about 20m. Just north of that spot over on little woody is a small rocky cove go in close and throw you squid jig. Most squid here are about the size of a 3-4 year olds forearm. Out in front of pt. vernon is another good area if your lucky you might spot or follow the FIGHTING WHITING. If weather permits head across to moon point on fraser then north up the island approx 10nm about 6nm out from fraser look for a charter boat the fraser princess he'll be on the reef. Make sure you always take you binoculars. Dont forget the becons out the front ether. good luck. MARK
