Mullet Musketeer

I spent all of Thursday telling uninterested friends, relatives, shop assistants, complete strangers that a GT had got the better of me in the Southport seaway early in the morning. By bedtime this disappointment had materialized into a solid plan for revenge. Alarm was set for 3.00 am and I was on the road again buy 3.15 am.
Same plan as usual but I dug out the heaviest rod I have - an old Wilson Snapper Barra 7ft - rated 2-5kg. I wandered down the Seaway rockwall stopping at a few points along the way, casting and retrieving a River to Sea gold coloured Popper with a darker back and underbelly about 10 cm long.
There were no hits for a couple of hours and the swell was massive by now. I found a good position about 20 meters from the end, perched on a flattish rock not far from the water. By 6.00 am I was getting soaked every now and then but I stuck my ground and about 10 mins later the lure is absolutely slammed close into the rocks in the foam. The heavier rod paid off and after a brief fight I had a decent Tailor safely up the rocks and in the keeper bag. My first this year - 52cm, 1.55 kg. I was very happy with it even if it wasn’t quite a GT. He will have to wait for another day.
I carried on for another hour or so but with no further hits so I gave up – can’t wait for the cooler weather!
