Hi all
Looking at doing my first bay trip this saturday.
Was going to launch from Bribie around 5-5.30am and head out to spitfire channel chasing macks and longtail coming home arund 11.
Have checked weather and tides and think it looks pretty good, will be fishing out of a 4.5 c/c formosa and taking 50ltrs fuel.
I have read and heard the bay can get a bit nasty though apparently worse than out to sea.
Ran a search on the site and seems that getting round skirmish pt can be a bit suss, whats the go with that??? i looked at the beacon to beacon and it seemed pretty good.
Any advice i need to be given here from the old saltys of the bay would be much appreciated.:) :)
happy fishing

Best of luck on your maiden trip out. Forecast is looking good so far.
Never been out of Sklirmish Pt so I wont comment on it.
My first thought was fuel.....................is 50 litres enough? Depends on the outboard. What size donk you got pushing her along? I wopuld think maybe look at additional 20 litres on board in jerry can or plastic fuel tank. Worth thinking about, especially if you're moving about alot or trolling.
Another fuel burner can be the trip home. If it blows up, boat works alot harder, takes longer and you burn alot of fuel. People have been caught out by rough trip home chewing their fuel. Just something to consider.

Point taken Mike,
Its got a 40hp merc 2005, get around 5 hours trolling skirts in it outside on a good day. Have never used it all trolling livies though, but yeah to be safe i might get another 20 ltr.
thanks

Outgoing tides and summer N/easter stand the waves up in the shallows around Skirmish. The tide rips through there and the northern end of the bay very quickly. In certain conditions it can be very uncomfortable coming home. If the forecast looks good no problems and sounds like you will be back in before it usually blows up in the afternoon.
Don't know what donk you got but a spare 20lt tank sounds like a good call in case you need to chase some schools around.
Cheers

Zigfreed,
I will be out around the northern end of Mud on Saturday, which is really not that far from where you will be, so give me a hoy on 27Mhz, probably 91.
Your boat sounds like a nice combo, I would love to replace my old glass boat with a Formosa, they have really high ( safe ) sides, or freeboard as people refer to it. Saturday should see a fantastic day for us, you will do well.

Cheers mate will give you a call. My call sign is Therapy what is yours????

The run over to Moreton from Bribie is quite an easy one. On a good day takes about 25 minutes in an old 19ft with 130hp Merc. Have to watch for the banks around Gilligan's etc. But really if you look for the change in water colour / swell you can spot them a mile away on a half decent day so it's usually fine. Have been through there at low tide in a 19ft and minimum depth we came across was 1.5m, so as long as you take it easy through these bits it's no problems. As others have said blows up a bit in the afternoon, but as long as you keep an eye out you will be fine. I will be out there to on Saturday hoping to get amongst it after a ordinary trip last time, have fun!

Geez i wouldnt call Spitfire Channel to Mud a short distance, would hate to see what you call a long distance;D . 27mhz wouldnt offer the greatest reception over that distance.

i've been using around 40 litres of fuel the last couple of weeks fishing from mud to tangaloma wrecks. Was intending to go the the artificial reef on saturday afternoon. Weather seems calm and seabreeze is predicting 5-10knots. Thats full on chasing bait fish around that area. The motor pretty much stays on for 4-5 hours. Have a 60 4 stroke yammie
I find chasing tuna with halco twist the best. seems too work all the time. 20grams though.
