Hi All,

After moving here in late jan I am finally starting to crack a pattern and catch some decent fish. After a few fishless trips around the bohle I has sussed out a few spots that are now producing.

A few hours after the change of the tide and a good supply of live bait I decide to anchor and fish a rock bar.Fishing was fast, if your reel didnt run within 2 minutes of casting out it was time to rebait. First fish was a bream that took a 6cm mullet followed by a undersize jack. Got a 70cm barra on a live herring . Followed was a double hookup, me with another bream and my fishing partner hooked up to a 56cm barra, A few small jacks followed before I had run out of live bait and I needed to pick up my crab pots before work.

Ended up with 2 large bucks as well;D

All in all a good day on the water. I was about to give up on this river but now might have to repeat performance.

Cheers

Aaron

I have been up here now for just over a year...........purely landbased but took a while to catch my first barra and am yet to catch a legal jack.

Keep persevering and you will not look back

Thanks for the welcome,

Must admit the first month here was tough with the local rivers in flood and a hell of a lot of fresh coming out of them. Now that we have settled conditions fishing has improved.

Did see a nice Jack caught not far from me. Cannot wait to land a nice jack. Locals up here seem to use live bait more than lures by my observations. When I lived in darwin it was vice versa.

Was surprised how vicious the pikey bream are to attack and eat a 6-8cm mullet or herring and hook up :o

Did want to throw a lure at the rockbar but the fishing was too hot and fast. As soon as you put your rod down out of gear with ratchet on and I picked up my lure rigged rod i was getting runs.:D

Looking forward to exploring some more local creek soon and sounding out some more spots to try.

Cheers

Aaron

Welcome to the Ville mate. I've been here for nearly 5 years and you have had more success than me in the Bohle.

I only launch from there now to get to West Point or Rattlesnake/ Lorne

Hi taipan,

Would love to be out there today with the light 5-10knts. Would prob gone over Rattlesnake for a explore and try and find some rocky bombies to sink a plastic around and chase some reefies. Dosnt look to far from the mouth of the Bohle.

I am sure west point would of been packed today with guys after some resident mackeral and some early macks as well.

I hope conditions stay good when i have days off to try cape cleavland etc.

Any places to try etc would be appreciated.

Cheers

Aaron

well done aaron, that's a top quality barra that you caught

I must agree the locals always seem to be cast netting up here.

Apparently between West Point and Bay rock there are some decent bommies holding Nannygai. Have'nt tried though.
I usually chase all my mackeral in the shipping channel. Sometimes you hook up on big trevally, queenies and tuna.
I'll be out there in the morning having a crack!
