Had a flexiday today as I am waiting for tech come over and fix my fridge so I thought I would take a short fishing trip this morning.

Launched from Wello about 9.30am and went to one of the reefs not far from King Island, well within the first three casts I had managed to land x3 legal squire just. Two kept the third released.

Within an hour another 8 squire were caught all legal size and a few small ones, the biggest being 46cm.:D

As i was out by myself I kept 5 but stayed out a while longer to see if I could get some Grassy Sweetlip to no avail. Back home and all cleaned up at home by 12.30pm.

All the squire were caught on SP's the watermelon neon 5 inch Jerk Shad's and mann did the squire hammer these when on the bite. Other SP were used but were not as effective as the Jerk Shads.

Not a bad effort for 2 hours on the bay certainly beats fishing on hte weekend with all that boat noise about, as there was only a small sail boat out where I was fishing.

That defines a "good" trip. Starting at gentlemans' hours and bagging out. I think I will stop setting the alarm for 3.30am in future!!;)

The Jerk shad is the Berkley gulp yes??

Do those squire turn up along the dropoff on the waterloo bay side of King or are they predominately on the east side???

Thanks for the comments all.

Rando - I have never fished the waterloo bay side of King for squire, perhaps one windy day I may give it a try.

Scalem - yea they are the Berkley Gulps.

Yellowhunter - As the reef runs pretty much all the way from Wello to St Helena its not hard to locate probably about 500-700m off shore maybe a little more but it should be easily accessible in a kayak on a calm day.

Top effort mate, got to love the mid week fishing and not having to battle all of the other danglers
