Well after a late call, decided the wind was going to drop off and would be a bnice night off Wello for a few hours.
Contacted fellow ausfisher Rooney, and we met at Wello ramp 5pm.
Decided 3 or 4 hours would be nice, and dropped the boat in the water.
Well we got 10ft off the ramp and the steering decides its going to retire - PERMANENTLY!!!.
Bummer..................... back to the ramp, boat on trailer and home we go....... sorry Rooney, never been a problem before, next time mate we will get out and into them...........

Mike, lucky you were only 10 foot from the ramp.
Mine let go on the coffee rocks off Moreton a while ago. Would have been a great sight with my mate working the throttle and me sitting on the cowl of a 90 Evinrue trying to steer it with my arse coming back through South passage bar.

Sounds like you had a very short trip. At least you got to the ramp. Some don't even get to the ramp. Better luck next trip

Thats allright mike, went out at Mbah 3am awhile ago in my uncles boat MASTERBAIT 1. Heading out in the dark turn right went left, turn left went right. "WHATHA" . He had been playing around with his hydrolic steering & reconnected wrong. Anyway because we were out offshore we kept going. was a bit tricky driving boat back onto the trailer but we came through ok.

know where you're coming from . 'bout a year ago same thing with amate's . where at the 30's off the seaway one night just on dark and flat as a sh777t carters hat. gps sounds the mark and so did the steering. 27 would't carry that far so out come the ropes to steer towards homeuntil in range to call airsea runaway8-) bay. very hard to steer200 merc at any pace but a crawl. Airsea come out and get us at 24's and say;s with a night like this we would of stayedand fished. they're a great bunch . gave a healthy donation and joined they're worth the weigt in gold.
