Took my young bloke Jack for a fish early sunday up and around the Coomera river

hit the water around 6 near runaway bay with the crab pots loaded in the tinny
put the pots in the coomera then took jack for his first shot at trolling lures, headed up the river and my lure is hit I wind in a nice flathead at 51cm for dinner

On our way agian and not 20 meters further jacks rod stated losing line quickly he wound it to the side of the boat for a nice little cod, I got it in the boat for a few pictures but i wasnt to sure on a size for these so we let him go to get a bit bigger

Off we go agian and just got back to the same place and my rod goes off at first i thought i had hooked a log but as i wound it in i found a stargazer on the end of my lure, Now i have heard of these being good eating but it had a head only a mother could love so i wasnt going near it , so back it went

Went back to check the crab pots for only 1 large jenny and an undersize buck both released

Seen a patrol boat cruising the river too bad he didnt see the 4 people in the small tinny 2 kids without lifejackets on

Headed over to sth straddie to check out a house we are renting after easter and the main channel near crab island is like the M1

had a quick look around crab island for nothing

back home by 11

heres jacko with his cod and a pic holding up the stargazer

Good to see you getting the young fella into fishing. Good catch. Love the face of kids when they get their own fish.

I agree, Stargazers do fight like logs! And boy do they look ugly! If every fish looked like what they do we would have more fish then water in our river systems!

onya scotty, get the kids involved. Thats a good hit from trolling. Ive trolled this area a few times for no hits.

Theres been lots of cod around here lately. I pulled 3 in a session last week, 35-45cm , all around there, on bait. They are great eating.

cheers
