You probably find you can get a new Navara ST-R for the same price as a late model second hand hilux, because they have ceased making the ST-R and are giving good deals on the last of them. Anything with a Toyota emblem on it will cost you at least 10% more than the others.

If you aren't looking into hiluxs', the go the navara, then triton in order of capablilty. Don't get a rodeo. They aren't as reliable or capable.

PS Go the Hilux
I personally have a toyota and for good reason.
We have a fleet of holdens (commodores/rodeos) with all engine configs at work and the surprise has been the 3.0 itd rodeos. Good donk - no breakages (for holden is quite remarkable) torquey down low where it is required blah blah blah and running under 10l per 100 on average, empty full or upsidedown.
I wouldn't discount them offhand - and anyone who knows me knows I don't put my hand up to support holdens .... ever.:P until now.
Second hand my pick would be a tojo though.

I have a 2003 Rodeo 3lt i/td and i cannot fault it.
It tows the boat comfortably and runs extra good on fuel.
It is auotmatic and is a treat with the auto box on the sand.
I had a 2.8 t/d before this one and it was just as good.
I amnot about to bag the other makes.
It is very reliable and capable. No mistakes about that.

i have a 2005 Navara STR. Got every option on it that I could and cost me just over $45,000. Its never missed a beat, and the only critisism I could draw with it is the turning circle.
Now they have the STX, the STR is going great guns at cheap as chips prices....well within reason anyway!!
