Mulloway for Dummies

I hate to admit it, guys and gals, but I haven't yet caught a Mulloway.

If any of you competent fishers out there are willing to take pity on me, I would love to go on a Mulloway hunt, and learn the ropes.

I live in Byron Bay, and am willing to travel an hour or so.

I have all the gear I need - Alveys and strong rods etc....Have read the theory.....have been busted off.....and spat out......now I just need to catch one!

Hi H-L-S, you are pretty close to the action where you are now. Brunswick heads north wall. Try a runout tide late afternoon into darkness throwing medium silver hardbody lures with 2metre depth into the north east corner towards the reef out there. moon phase will play a big part as will the time of year. Don't go out when the water is clear and flat. White water is good as is muddy water from flood run off. Last year was a boomer for jew so I am expecting a lot less this year and you may have to work harder for them. A good eggbeater real with 300metres of 30lb line is sufficient and makes easier work of constant casting and have patience fishing and landing fish. Be very aware that if you fish off the rocks it can be extremely dangerous and experience does help as does a pair of neoprene boots with steel spikes. Don,t risk injury or death for a fish as I have seen some nasty wash ins with inexperienced rock fishers. Take it easy. cheers, steve.

Thanks for the advice guys. Just stocked up on squid and sand worms, so will give it a try this weekend.
