Well 4 trips to wello now and not a legal size fish>:( .
Today was a classic : 7 squire smack on 35 all released to close to call
3 grassies a bee's willy under, 15 moses perch just under, 2 tarwhine just under,
4 wobbiegong, lost count of the grinners and knot eels, oh and 1 really big green toad.
I've had a gutfull !!
Its back to driving a few hours north and catching barra, big whiting and flatties for me I think.
May give it one more go during the week but my resolve is at rock bottom, the early morns and boat fuel aint worth it
Mick.

Gidday Mick,
Sounds like you have a hoodoo that needs breaking. If you are humble enough to share where you think you might be going wrong, I am sure many on AF are willing to help break the drought. What do YOU think is wrong, or do you think there's no fish of legal size? ( contrary to what I am reading from other reports)

Scalem, I think it comes down to wrong place wrong time, not holding our tounges right walked under a ladder crossed a black cat smashed a mirror, sorry can't think of anymore hoodoos.
But seriously I've thrown every thing at the buggers pillies squid sp's many different types hard bodies, i wish I was back in victoria as the legal size for snapper is only 27cm catch limit is the same, never failed to get a feed down home, usually coz the standard fish was around the 3/4 kg mark8-)

These are just my experiences at Wello...
Firstly, we found that SP's during the day and fresh baits at night are the most productive.
With SP's, drifting anywhere from the ledge to 2m in the shallows from the leads to Huybers. Stick with Gulps/Powerbaits and 1/8 jigheads with flurocarbon leader. Watermelon/pumkinseed are the favoured colours. Incoming tide generally is the best however there are the odd exception to the rules. Full and new moons also helps.
It was definitely a bit roughish out there this weekend for it and we used all our patience and know how yesterday to land a feed although TINN struggled to land a keeper. Although, this was TINN's only 3rd full-time effort on SP's at Wello.
Don't be too disheartened - it's only been 4 trips and that's to be expected until you get the 'know how' factor. It took us a few trips last year to work out some conditions to the rules that we spent all winter to refine and build on. Funny enough, we're still learning and adding to the 'know how'...
Stick with it - MICKSTAR is a classic example and he is starting to reap the rewards for persistance.
Hope this helps. Take Care T

Barraman don't give up on Wello because the squire are there you just need the right technique, 1/8th jighead and a zoom baby bass plastic or pumpkinseed gulp.
Cast ahead of your drift on the 5 metre dropoffs.
patience and persistance and you will be rewarded.
IT MAY TAKE 12 TRIPS BEFORE YOU MASTER THE ART OF USING PLASTIC BAITS BUT WHEN YOU DO THERES NO LOOKING BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers Brent

Thanks for the info, seems like I'll just have to keep up the casting as I've got all the right hardware, its what we used down home in vic, its watermelon, pumkinseed or nothing else!!
Seems they really like the pumkinseed up here all the squire have been caught on the latter!!

Yeah stick with it barraman, I have been fishing for a year and a half to get a 54cm snapper, its hard work and annoying at times, eventually if you're doing all the right things. Some nice advice there from T1, the welloman.
IT WILL HAPPEN! Best of Luck!
