Navigating Tingalpa creek

Was thinking of taking my tinny up Tingalpa creek to get out of the wind this weekend.
As I've never been further in than the leads out front before can anyone tell me if it has a marked channel once inside. I've also heard it has rocks in places. Are these signed/marked? I would be there say anywhere from 3 hours before or after this weekends big high tides. As it's all new to me I'll probably have a good poke around from the back of St. James Park estate to the mouth.
Without giving too much away could anyone recommend any areas (vaguely or otherwise)?

Tingalpa Creek is a great place to remodel your prop. Be especially careful around the upstream (road) bridge - there are rocks on the southern side. These rocks are marked with an unofficial sign, as there are no beacons upstream of the boat ramp. On your first visit it is a good idea to explore on the high tide using your sounder (if you have one) to suss out the shallow areas.

Fishing-wise, it is worth a go around said rocks, the bridge piles and there is some deeper water on along the northern bank a bit upstream of the rail bridge. If you have a cast net, try for bait near the boat ramp and (just maybe) a few prawns. It's worth a try for muddies if you are there early morning or late afternoon. I wouldn't suggest a night trip until you have figured out the lie of the rocks and shallow areas.

I stick to the left when past the second bridge as there is a rock bar that sticks out about 20 mts or so about half way from the bridge to the bend, you should be right on the high tide.Have a sound around that bend. There is rocks on the outside of the bend so take care.

Ok..... the leads comin into tinny/lota creek, you can get through anywhere there on a good sized high tide. On a low, you can and will bottom out in the channel in places, as over time the beacons haven't been moved along with the sandbanks.

There are 3 ramps too choose. One official one, on the southern side near the mouth. It's single lane, concrete and parking is ok. look in your UBD.

The second is just a dirt slope, up alongside the thorneside railway station.

The third is on the northern side on the eastern side of the road bridge.... derelict to say the best, and is my third choice.

As for underwater obstructions, there's a rock bank on the nothern side, just upstream from the rail bridge, look for the clearing in the bush. Just before here on the southern side there's 2 freshwater springs that come up out of the bottom of the creek.

The other rock bar is in the middle passageway of the road bridge, which is marked b a sign.

Another one to watch out for projects perpendicular off of the notrthern bank, about 50M upstream of the road bridge, this will extend across the creek about 1/4 of the way.

That lefthand bend upstream of the road bridge harbours a 7m hole, and on the outer corner more rocks.

On a mid to big tide you can venture all the way up the creek to the rocks/rapids in behind the capalaba greyhound track.

Opposite the mangrove island from the 2nd ramp mentioned where the boats are moored and the dereict houseboat with the yellow sub sits..... there is an old sunken shed structure, watch out for it. It's on the lefthand side of the island heading upstream, about 20M off the bank... near the end of the island.

There's also a good hole under the train bridge, and the passage connecting lots creek just opposite the second ramp is worth a look and explore up that creek.

youre thrid choice Dave is from the recent bridge works last year. It was done to allow the workersclose access to the bridgae when they were putting in the neww walkway and upgrading the bridga ein general.

Yes mike, that ramp? It was always there but was only ever just gravel and mud at best, I have used it before the brige works took place. It's a bit better but still a bit... how ya doin'

Mate i come round from the ramp near the mouth.

The only really shallow bit is near the railway bridage, round where that beautiful seaworthy houseboat is moored. :)
