I am currently trying some new grounds that is producing a few snapper on the drift. The area I am fishing is a 15 to 25m channell with a few holes and pinicles. The current runs at 5knts + at most times but at times the lower flow is quicker than the upper few metres of water if that makes any sense. At times we can set up a nice even drift. What I am going to try is to drop a large weight burley block down (probable in a hessian bag) and attach a bouy. My thoughts are if this was dropped down at thwe point I start my drift and then I do my drift of upto 1000m, go back to the bouy and do it again and again.
what are your thoughts on this system.

Hi Blaze....I have tried what you are saying.....dont really know if it improves the fishing or not....why not tie it off the bow and weight it to nearly the bottom....or use a parachute anchor to slow your drift....grab a one ton feed bag ...like the fish farm or farmers use they have 4 lifting ###### to tie off on...

My method that works best here...especially in the deep is .....the same principal except we freeze all our burley...and put it into a large round container with a screw on lid...bottle or two of red bait oil and he presto... send it to the bottom...if the fish are hungry then they will usually come for miles.....we are on anchor of course whilst doing this..Cheers Mick

Have tried them methods Snelly,They all work with some degree of success. I think what I am trying to create is more of a super highway. These fish dont seem to hold any where thet we can find and I feel they are continuesly swimming this channel. Big long sorta channel that I feel would come back on itself after navigation lottsa km. Petrel Is, three hummock Is, Walkers Is and hunters Is.

I will have a talk to commercial fisherman i know up your way....he knows the area like the back of his hand...might be able to shed some light for you instead of sounding out the bottom for miles.....

Ps Blaze i dont mean to argue...but what do you think we do here in the wide open spaces to attract fish.......150 + meters of water with no structure until you reach the shelf or luckily a ledge....fish have tails and if they are on the bite then they will travel for miles.....we find some days it just means burley ...burley...and bloody burley ...eventually they turn up and when they do it is flat out action....i understand where your coming from ...just dont know if it would work...
And the only other suggestion...is your burley up to it...maybe it might be worth trying another mixture....i give them every thing besides the kitchen sink to see what works....light sticks....red bait oil....fish farm pellets.....aniseed oil...etc...

The old burley trail would be pretty weak after a kilometer wouldn't it.
What depth are you talking about Blaze??
What about a series of burley pots and set a trail like when dropping crab-pots??
