Magnificent weather greated us for the weekend, which is unusual when my brother (alias Black Cloud) comes to visit, so we decided to fish the northern leg of the bass to barra trail. Our plan was to fish cania during the day and travel to callide at night and finish the tour in awonga for the last night. Unfortunately we couldn't convince many bass to bite and the boys from Cairns only caught 3 bass between them but they were pretty happy since they were there first bass. I luckily caught my biggest bass at 45cm. We left cania by 11am as it was still and sweltering and drove to callide to have the boats winch post reattached to the trailer. We were so close to dropping the boat on the road and that would have dampened our weekend. There were at least 12 boats at callide when we arrived so we joined the queue circling around in the middle of the dam, eventually the fish started biting and I landed my 5 biggest barra ever in callide as I've usually caught most of the fish around 98-99 cm. I was quite shocked but very happy with the 118cm fish in the photo. Two personal bests in one weekend, I was beginning to wonder what awonga would have in store and it didn't let me down with another personal best fish there too. Australia Day weekend will long be remembered for big fish.
