Hi All,

Spent a great morning with Brett Jones (Still Water Charters) at Monduran last week and was lucky enough to pull this 91cm specimen out of some heavy timber. My first ever barra - and I strongly recommend the advice and guidance of a professional if you're new to the dam. Brett all but swam under the boat and put the lure in it's mouth ;D !

It was released to fight another day.

I'll definitely be back with my own boat in the near future and picked up some great local knowledge and techniques.

Nice fish. Just a few questions, was the fishing slow? and how much did u pay for the charter. The camping fee's are pretty expansive so i would think a charter would be very very expansive.

Hi Mate,I don't know the dam well enough to say it was 'slow'. One fish like that, for half a day of casting was ample reward for me! Some of the campers around me were getting a few per day, and some none after a few days effort - as they say - that's fishing!Campsite was about $20ish for the night with great facilities. Best bet is to contact the guides for pricing, as it will differ by duration, group size etc. My only advice is to find out what the cost includes (some may charge for lost lures etc - which this charter didn't). At face value, it might seem expensive. But for me to tow my boat from the Gold Coast, fish and stay for a few days - and likely end up fishless without the knowledge gained from Brett - for mine it was well worth the investment up front. I now feel far more confident about my own venture up there.Good luck mate.BG

First, Brendan, Congratulations!!

Second, the prices are going up quite steeply for accom at lakeM. Supply and demand I guess, but the grounds and cabins are pleasant.

I'm a mug and have put in a few (ok 10) days casting for a few little'uns and a few big bust offs, so if a guide can make a difference for you, and you have the $$, I'd go for it :). On the other hand, if you want to troll, you may land bigger fish by asking at the kiosk and following the crowd.

I've met Brett at the kiosk, and a father and son pair of his customers. They were tired but happy despite not actually landing a fish. Based on what they said, if I had the brass I'd definitely organise a guide for my next lakeM trip. Unfortunately my present from the wife and daughter fund has already been exhausted by a flash rod and reel. And they don't yet know about the fancy braid I'm still waiting for.
