Hi All,
I'm looking to buy a new overhead reel mainly for flicking soft plastics and maybe a bit of live/dead bait fishing. Looking for something that would be good for chasing jacks etc so I'm thinking about 20lb braid or a bit heavier if necessary.
I've come across the new Abu Revo reels and am wondering if anyone has any experience with them. The one I'm looking at is the SX.
Any advice on alternatives in the sub $300 bracket will be appreciated also.
Thanks,
Pete

Hey mate, from everything I have read the Revo seems like a pretty good reel, the guys on tackletour.com seem to really love them

Thanks Dan :-)
Yeah that was one of the articles I read that sparked my interest in them. I don't think the stx model is available in Aus but the difference between the stx and sx is a special anti friction coating or something like that. I'm going shopping in Brissy tomorrow to see what's around.

Pete

I havent had a chance to fish with one yet but ive had a look at them and they are a nice looking, smooth reel and the sx has an impresive drag which will be good for them jacks.
Pete,
I have a revo sx that I use for chaseing jacks up the creeks in the passage.
Spooled up with 10kg Daiwa PE braid, throws small hard bods like a dream, plenty of grunt in the drag, lovely little reel.
Have it hanging off a 4 - 6 kg rack raider, very happy

Brian
max drag pressure of 24 pounds. Thats 10.8864 kg for those who don't have a nokia phone with ConverterII application!! holy clap:o .

Thanks everyone for the info - much appreciated. Isn't this site great !
I picked up my new sexy black revo sx yesterday in Brissy spooled it up with 20lb higher quality braid had a flick around the back yard and then took it for a quick plastic and hardbody session in the Brissy river.
So far so good - I am a happy camper. Did manage a few nests when flicking pretty light jig heads but they were easy to get out and after half an hour of trying different settings managed to get ok distance and accuracy. It is also really comfortable to use.
I couldn't find a better specced reel for the money (just over $200) and was quite suprised they aren't more widely stocked or promoted.
Cheers,
Pete
