Hey All

Are the Classic Lures by Rob Gaden any good? I bought a F18 "Manta Ray" (Blue Dazzler) to try my hand at Mackerel and Kingfish and whatever else wants to have a go at it.

Are they any good? suggestions for other lures to target Mackerel, Kingies, Trevally etc?

Cheers.

I've got a Classic lure. The "Old Man Super Donger" 12 inches of death armed with 3 8/0 doubles. Now that's a classic!

the classic lure range is fantastic one of my favourite lures for chasing barra. couldnt see why they wouldnt work on the mackeral. they are stong and have good quality hooks. other lures to try are rapala x raps and magnums. river to sea min dives. storms deep thunders and halco laser pros

For maccy's( spanno's and greys) a good lure to have in the tackle box is the rapala cd-18 in white with the red head, always worth a troll !!!, also the halco tremblers are very good !!

Yeah for Mack's and Trev's Id go a Halco Laser Pro ahead of a Classic Manta anyday... Leave the Classic's in the Barra Impoundments, where they belong ;)

Look towards Predatek's too mate... They have some deep running Lures... These lures are used alot for giant Greenfish (Cod) in the fresh. Although the lures arn't as big in size, they have a good action and a massive colour selection.

Thanks for all your replies...I don't think I will get a barra at straddie though... ;-)

I will just see how it goes with this lure...can't go buying too many or the Missus will kill me! *jokes*

If you decide you hate it and want to swap it for a laserpro, send me a pm. I'm near Chermside.

If you were after depth, halco and manns and others both make other deep runners. Might take some serious tackle to hold them at a fast troll? They troll ok at slow barra speeds on 6kg+ tackle.

The other thing you are probably aware of is that different lures work best at different speeds. Even the same lure with different hooks and rings can work better at another speed. Halco give a speed range on some of their packs, and there are books. Or, if you bought it at a tackle shop, ask 'em

Yeah Voodoo you cant go wrong with the laser pros in fluro red or white with a red head for the mackos

great barra lure but I suspect that the macks will put holes in it, as the barra pull the middle hook out of them and eventually fill with water so the sharp teeth of mackeral may be a challenge for a classic.

Thanks for the replies....I only have a limited budget or I would have got the Halco laser pro with the white with red head.

I'm going with the F-18, an Rapala X-rap in silver and a River2Sea 17g Popper.

Here's hoping...only ever fish I have caught on a hard body lure was a big yellowbelly on a rebel crawfish!
