hey heading to Monduran on friday after work to tangle with these frate trains, just after some help for this dam as I have only fished Awoonga once and it is a completely different ball game. Is any one going to be up there to have beers and swap storys.
Where abouts is this white rock?
What is the full moon fish like?
thanks.

Well if you think find White rock will solve your problems, its a rock about 1/3 to half way up day through the first sparse lot of timber. It is just a rock about two to three feet tall painted white halfway up the side of a small hill on the right hand side.
By then you will have passed heaps of really good spots.
The main dam has been firing and there are numerous spots. The best bet is to talk to Rob at the Caravan park and find out where they are biting at the moment.
Great dam and would rate it better than Awoonga for sheer pleasure.
But you will need a Gps if you are going to venture up into the sticks. Be careful of underwater objects in the dam when under way.
Good luck and am sure that you will get a few responses from Brett or Myles or some of the other.
You haven't lived until you have caught a big one up in the timber up the back of Monduran.
Enjoy you trip.

Hi elpherez , as Trev mentioned take a GPS if you are going to venture past white rock.
I haven't been up there for a week now, but I am back on the water starting tomorrow.
As Trev mentioned you will drive past plenty of great Barra haunts on your way up the main channel. A lot of people think I drive up further to that special hiding spot, not so , I am just trying to give my clients a good quiet days fishing. I have missed a few times up the top to only come back down towards the main basin in amongst the trees and hook up there.
We have been lucky enough of late to at least have quite a few hook ups through the day , but only landing a few due to the timber.
I very rarely troll , but it is better after dark so I have been told.
I mainly use 1 to 3 meter divers , find a nice bunch of trees and start casting, trying to land some lures around the water line is very helpfull :) as you will find out it can be quite tough to do at times. Practice short and long casts if you can before you go. I have cast a lure just a meter from the boat and been smashed up, so they are not afraid if they are there. It is just a matter of patience. Work an area over slow, don't rush a big bay or even a small one . One main thing I do like to do is fish alone as much as possible, try and avoid areas with other boat traffic in them.
Good luck , drop over if you see me and say G'day.:)

I am a 2 trip mug. (the second trip was 10 days).
I've had a chat to some of Brett's clients on the full moon in Oct/Nov 06. They asked Brett to fish, and noted most of his casts were only a few metres, direct to the bank.
Since hearing that (thanks Brett) I've done the same while casting. I am convinced that if you are going to cast, short casting works, but you have to make your own call. I have caught fish in shallow backwaters/gullies on casts less than a boat length from my boat, and my boat is 4.3m
Again, as a two trip mug, In my heart of hearts, if they are ON, (day or night) then trolling catches HEAPS more fish. But casting is special.
The camping ground kiosk is hard to miss and a good source of tips. Brett has shared a lot of info on this board too. And he has this largeish white boat often found outside said kiosk.
At this time of year, when the surface water is so hot????

G'day Elephrez, Just got back from Monduran and couldn't get a Barra to save myself, had one hit in the timber which straightned the hooks but for this trip that was it for me, Plenty of Barra showing on the sounder but they were none to interested in my lures, A couple of local blokes claim the full moon on Friday will do the trick, I hope so for your sake. I saw still-water Bretts truck at the ramp and wonder how you got on for his session. I didn't bother going up to White rock I figure there are plenty of good spots before there (or maybe I should of), anyhow have a great trip and give- em heaps, Cheers Whitto

Hi guy's my day yeilded one at 91 cm and that was it >:(. As you mentioned whitto there is plenty to be seen on the Telly screen but they just won't rise up to high.
Everyone I had spoken to at the ramp all only seem to be getting 1 fish per session. A couple of guy's had done Ok after dark trolling with fish up to and over 110cm. But at the time they were on the water I would rather be cuddled up at home under the air con. ;D .
With them holding so deep again it might be a good reson to drop some soft plastic's or big tremblers through them for a bit of a jig.
For those who have not seen the dam of late , the dirt ramp is almost empty,I am hitting bottom as I come around the back of other boats, and they are still pumping out hard which is one reason the fish will go deep and hold untill the water levels settle again, I always find when they are taking a lot of water out the Barra will go deep and shut down. There is plenty of stumps just showing their tops, so please be careful and watch your speed.
I am running 2 to 4 meter divers in the Classic's , Scorpians and F18's ranges. Gold seems to be my lucky colour with the Bobby dazzler green.
Good Luck
Brett.

Thanks Brett for your reply, there's no doubt they are shut down, 6weeks ago certain stumps nr the old tree line at the top of the Basin were under water and now 3 feet out of water, Tuesday night Iwas out on the patio of Cabin 2 at 1130pm and saw 1 boat trolling down and around the Dam wall, and a tip for Elephrez the only Barra I saw caught was on a B52 Black and Gold, anyhow maybe a full moon will do the trick, Good luck and good fishing Elephrez, Cheers Whitto

I spent the last two and a half days there and appart from catfish could not get a fish casting. Alot of conversation at the ramp of not many fish.
We did find some trolling. Caught 3 (80cm, 75cm, and 92cm) and got bricked by 2 more. Fish were biting in the 20-25 foot depth of water. The key seemed to be alot of variation in that depth. The active fish were holding on the rises and drops in depth.
