Hi Folks,
I have just purchased a TSS4 for the intent of getting out wide at Straddie to spin for larger tailor.
Can my fellow tailor fishos recommend what works well for them in the tackle dpt. ie. spoons, poppers, slugs etc what sizes and or brands. I've been fishing there for 2 decades on pillies, bonito and gar but had some fun there last year alongside a few other fella who were casting some slugs out wide. After 3o minutes with the old alvey I was buggered...bit caught a few stonkers as well.
So the eggbeater is a whole new world for me. Any advice wold be appreciated.

Hey mate
there are heaps of other posts on this site about tailor spinning. I know tailor love slugs and shiny spinners because i have seen heaps of people using them, and catching a few aswell. they love the shine especially, i know that as a fact because sometimes they have a snap at your swivels if they aren't darkened.

thanks Rockfisho. I typed in tailor spinning in the search section and a whole new world opened up to me. I am in awe of the experience and wisdom out there.
Looks like I am going to have find myself some sliders...perhaps Mossops?
Sliders are made by a bloke up at Tewantin, who only sells to his mates. You can make your own by getting a barrel sinker and dipping it into molten solder.
Or just get 65g raiders and put on 6/0 single hooks. We've been using raiders for years up at fraser, just keep the rod tip down to limit the fish jumping.

Sliders are available at mossops at wooloongaba, wide awake tackle at Noosa and a tackle shop at Carseldine, come in a variety of sizes. Use the search function and put in "spinning for tailor" by mcj85( or mjc85) in the saltwater section, you will not be sorry, great info and heaps of it !!!

hooknose, do you have any idea of how much sliders cost from mossops?

Think they are on the shelf at around $10 rockfisho.
I tried everything in the way of hook configurations on Raiders etc Nog, but didn't solve the problem of tailor throwing the lure during leaps. That is why the Slider came into being and it is the only way to solve the problem. Any heavy metal lure that has the hooks attached is problematic due to the way tailor headshake when leaping. The weight of the lure being thrown around by the tailor and the side to side movement of the lure during headshake causes the hooks to pull through the path that they entered into the fishs' mouth. Barra are much the same but the lures used for barra are much lighter and have 2 or more sets of trebles and still they manage to throw lures. Marlin and sails also do the headshake thing, but most game lures are made of plastic and also slide. The main reason these lures slide is for strength - no internal wires or split rings to give way which can also occur with metal casting lures on tailor.
