Hello!

I thought the best place to seek advice, would be from people that actually fish!

I've decided to take my son fishing and i got him a nice little rod, BUT when it comes down to adult rods i have absolutly no idea at all, there are soo many different types of rods, and all i have eliminated are boat rods because we won't be boat fishing. We are fishing in a bay/estuary/ type place.
What matters when are you getting a rod? do you take your own height into consideration? or its not really that scientific?

Gotta start somewhere!

Also, on a bit of a budget, so any options or infomation would be greatly appreciated.;D

Hi aimee
it`s is not an exact science but there are some things to take into consideration. I don`t know where you are situated but I reckon your best bet would be to visit your local bait and tackle shop and tell them what you want to do and they should be able to set you up with a good all round combo. there are some good well priced combos around at the moment that should satisfy your needs.
an added bonus in talking to the local guy is he should be able to steer you in the right direction as to where to take your son to fish locally.
hope you find what you are looking for and you and the young fellow have many enjoyable hours together fishing
cheers John

G'day aimee

What john said is all good info. I'll just add the following.
Where are you situated? May be worth looking at the meet and greets board here to go fishing with some fellow members, there's plenty opf women aswell.

What kind of budget are you on? You can do quite ok on $100.

I'd personally look at soemthing in the 2-4kg range, about 6'6 to 7' long and a little spinning reel of the 2500 to 4000 size.

Shimano do have a very good quality budget range, i'm sure the rest do aswell.

You and your son will have a great time, hope you enjoy it.

Dave
