Tackle box startup

just getting back into fishing after about 20 yrs and need to get a tackle box up and running and am looking at the hooks now. I read in "caught on fishing" merv hughes that he suggests the following hooks to start up a kit that covers most fishing...

Mustad Big Red 2/0 4/0 6/0
Mustad Tarpon 2/0 4/0 6/0
Mustad Bloodworm 8 6 4 2
Mustad Long Baitholder 6 4 2 1 1/0 ( Merv said baitholder style? and i guessed he means something like this one, correct me if i'm wrong)

that sound about all i need for a good kit? any other ones to add or replace one type? maybe Aberdeen or Big Mouth? also i see that Gamakatsu are mentioned a lot.. maybe i should start a kit based on them instead? if so what at models i should use there? they appear dearer then mustad and unless they are worth the extra?

thanks everyone for your input as i want to start off with the right equipment. oh one other little thing....pliers 6in or 8in and straight or bended nose??

all depends on what you are fishing for.
I use 5/0 7/0 9/0 in trueturn and 8/0 gamakatsu saltwater fly.
I do have many more hooks but these seem to be the only ones I use.

a would think my tackle box would cost about $1000 to buy maybe more maybe less. but I could most likely do it for $300 for the day to day stuff.

than add lures, sinkers, leader 7 sizes, swivels, rings etc etc the list goes on.

as for pliers I have the longest one i could find the further my hand is from sharp teeth the better

yeah i don't expect to use every hook size either but i like to be everything covered ....strange yeah but i'm like that. 'm look to cover, lakes, bream, lizards, jacks thru to kingies snapper etc... all but the larger gamefish. so really anything you can catch on light or medium tackle. cheers for your reply. and yeah its gonna cost but i can get a little each week.

the best way would be to look at what fish you want to catch and buy what you need for that fish, if you are going after flathead than target them with the right gear. than maybe bream for the next trip that way you will have what you need as you need it. after a while you will have all the right stuff for all the fish you chase with out the stuff you dont need.
