Southern fish stocking groups to meet in Inglewood
About 100 members of southern Queensland fish stocking groups are set to gather in Inglewood in May for their annual workshop.

Being co-hosted between the Department of Primary Industries Queensland Fisheries Service (QFS) and Inglewood Fish Stocking Association, the workshop will address key fish stocking issues in southern Queensland.

The workshop will be held in the Inglewood Civic Centre from 17 to 18 May and will focus on managing and enhancing freshwater fish stocking activities and recreational fishing in Queensland.

Representatives from community fish stocking groups, the Freshwater Fishing and Stocking Association of Queensland, the Australian National Sportsfishing Association and commercial fish hatcheries will also attend the workshop.

QFS biologist Peter Kind said major topics for discussion this year included the impacts of the drought on stocked dams, fish passage at dams and weirs and evaluating the social and economic value of freshwater recreational fishing.

Mr Kind said the fish stocking program began in southern Queensland in 1986 with 12 groups stocking 14 locations.

“Today, throughout Queensland there are 75 groups responsible for fish stocking in more than 100 locations,” he said.

Mr Kind said the program started with the requirement that community-based groups would oversee fish stocking in their local area.

“Community groups embraced this concept and continue to do so today,” he said.

“Fish stocking been a great success with many communities relying on stocked dams to attract anglers and other visitors to their areas.”

Since these workshops have been running (over a decade now), I've only missed 2 of them. Will be missing this one however, due to my son's Christening on the 18th.
Some good info for those stocknig group members who haven't been before.
