Electric Fishing
I’d like to have a go at fishing in electric only impoundments.
Can you fill me in - what boating solutions seem to work best?
What kind of boats and motors would we I see on these impoundments?
Is this covered on some website ?
Thanks
Gary

Big factor is to make sure you have enough battery power to run the electric (some people carry 2). Remember if the wind picks up and you have to travel back to the ramp into it, you'll use a lot more power. Same goes for if you travel with a lot of additional weight in the boat.
With motor size, it's better to go overgunned rather than undergunned.
We use two electrics sometimes on our tinnys (a 5.3m plate boat and a 3.85 Quintex Explorer Trophy) which brings us up to 110lb worth of thrust - in either boat, the speed's brilliant! They are a Minn Kota 55lb Bow mount and a 55lb Transom mount.
Some dams won't allow combustion motors onto them (Hinze for one) so therefore we use the smaller boat in this instance as it's much easier to take a 25hp off a boat rather than the 70hp!
Another factor is whether you use the motor to get from A to B or you just use the electric when you get to your destination (in an electric only dam, obviously you'll be using it for travel however in other dams, most people will use the combustion motor for travelling purposes.)
It's a great way to fish - no bloody jetskis!!!!
