Artificial Baits - freshwater ?

Does anyone have any knowledge on the use of the artificial bait, in freshwater lakes,dams,and rivers. I bought some rubbery, yabbie and prawn artificial bait recently and didnt know how to use it. And does it work ? I spoke to other fishermen while fishing and I keep getting conflicting ideas. Do you sit the bait on the bottom of a lake and wait, or in the case of the yabbie do you slowly wind in, copying the action of a yabbie ?( some of the baits are scented ) Is it the same for river fishing ? I have seen people Surf fishing with similar baits, and they have kicked goals. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated--- Nomad. ??? ???

Work them like the real deal Nomad. If their the style of plastics that Im think off you can actually use them like bait just give them a little hop every now and then.
