Somerset has never been a great place for me to fish. I have put in about eight trips there to catch a handful of fish.
You need to get alot of local knowledge when fishing there, I went recently with a friend and caught some great bass but this guy fished there every weekend.
In my opinion, it's too far to drive to catch no fish, plus you have to pay extra for the boating permit.
I fish Maroon alot, there are always fish around up there and they are easy to find. If you want some tips on Maroon I can help you out.

:) :)G'Day Guys,
Where do I start, the mate and I have been going up to Somerset from Brisbane for years consistently, you have to be prepared to put in the time and effort,in short we have a fairly good knowledge of the dam and believe it or not it's moods,if you go to Somerset every now and again is a bit like hit and miss. The best pieces of advise I can give you is look for the drop off and the point's and a Good Sounder, use soft plastics mark the spot and slow roll the plastics off the bottom and vary the rate from time to time, what Im talking about here is catch and release,I have fished them all and in my opinion Somerset is the best,Good Fishin 2u Cheers Whitto :D :D

Yep
Your right Whitto. it is alot of hit and miss, I think I've had seven trips that were miss. Recently went up there with a friend from Tamworth up here for a fish and caught nothing.
We had the gps spots infact we scouted out the whole dam from Kirkleigh down and came up with nothing. Oh and we threw in Jackalls,Sliders,Silver Fox Squidgees, spinner baits at what we thought were schools also went along alot of banks and we even trolled as last resort and still got nothing.
Yet the next day we went to Maroon and got over thirty each. All we wanted at Somerset was one fish, just one fish but nothing. I am not alone, I have spoken to alot of people about Somerset and they all say Somerset is hot and cold.
Although, Somerset can claim to be one of the best bass fisheries in SE Q, it just hasn't given it's best to me yet.
I'll give it a few more tries.
Just my Opinion
