Not sure if this belongs in the Tackle forum but figured you Freshwater guys would recognise the lure more readily.

Picked up a 55mm Cicada Pop lure recently and in giving it a few test casts in the pool today, the darn thing sinks by the tail and disappears if you don't keep it in motion on the surface. Is this normal for this lure or shoulfd I go back to the tackle shop & go "OI"??

Given that I believe a softly softly pause retrieve is what you need for Bass etc, I thought these lures were designed to make a lot of noise on the surface, not sink out of sight once you stop the retrieve.

Have I got it all wrong?

Cheers, Dave

their are alot of cicader type lures out there and like everything they are more than a few that don't work
but the ones that do work are rippers ;D

Geez that's disappointing! I've seen those in the shops and almost bought a couple.
I too would've assumed they float. But float or sink it should say on the package.

nope i have a couple of them and they work fine
alittle bit tail heavy but doesn't sink
mind you i like smaller surface lures for the bass most of the time execpt in the dark ;D

Of course I'll give it a go, just have to see. Maybe I can drill out some of the resin down the back end to lighten it up or something if it's a pain.

Basserman, you say you have a couple. Any special techniques with these that might improve the catch rate?

Cheers, Dave

well you hit it on the head
we use them slowly with lots of pauses (sometimes up 30seconds)
we have even had a bass get caught on a surface lure we had hanging over the back of the boat doing nothing at all (we were useing another rod with a spinner on it at the time)

one thing i have noticed more with floating divers is that some times with diffent water (eg more freash or more salt) is that they can sink and other times float
another tip for surface work is when the bass hit the lure and if it doesn't hook up don't strick just let the lure float back up because alot of the times the first hit is to injure and then second time to eat ;D

shame your not down this way
i'm going earliy tomorrow with the fly rod in hand to get some bass on surface flys [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Jeffo, no it's as dry as a arab sandshoe. Once out of the water, no drips, no sloshes, nothin'. Maybe the back treble is a little heavier than usual. For argument's sake I'll swap them over and see what happens.

Just performed a little experiment and removed the trebles. The lure will float tail down in the sink, at about 45 degrees. Adding the extra hardware is enough to pull it under.

I've thrown away the packaging but I might go back to the tackle store and check out the score on the rest in stock. If nothing else it's an excuse to pick up more lures!

Cheers, Dave

just tested mine in the sink and worked fine
hooks are the standared that come with it so if i was you i would be tacking it back to where you brought it and get them to test it
should not sink

This is mine at the bottom of the sink. I'd say, comparing the two, I have a dud.

That's the true value of these forums, the information exchange is terrific.
