Try upstream from Grafton. Ring a tackle shop down that way and ask about where to go - This however isn't the best "season" for them.

Try around Suzan Island with surface lures in the early morning. Also try Whitemans creek and the Orara river upstream from Eatonsville. Its a bit early in the season for them too far up river. Good luck

Just a word of warning if you do go to the Grafton Tackle shop, take very little notice of what you are told, if you do want to buy anything just check the price with Coffs Harbour just down the road and make sure you count your change. Huge B.S.A. and rip off. I wont get caught again

While it is early in the season you will always get fish up higher that have not moved down to spawn. If you are land based then there is always some good fishing in the Gorge country and if you have a canoe then anywhere down stream of Tabulam to the gorge, especially around the Mann/Clarence junction is a good spot to go.

eer - will you be shore based of will you have access to a boat??
We were up there a couple of weeks ago and fished up at Copmanhurst. We caught a few fish on spinnerbaits fished deep amongst the boulders. The best one went 53cm (see pic)
My mate an his missus stayed up there for a few more days after I left. They fished another 2 days trolling green +3m hardbodies and caught 13 the first day and 9 the second with the best going 43cm.

is there much shore based access around the clarence
i mean where it isnt fished out>?
i will be fishing from a boat. What time of the year would be the best for that area, as i fish around the Richmond river and Toonumbar Dam areas and have already started to catch some good fish

October onwards is the better time generally but if your looking at deeper water lower down for the boat then now is the time to be upstream of Grafton.
Where are you from? I am near Casino and also fish the Richmond and the Dam.
I live at kyogle. i was thinking about going camping down near copmanhurst this weekend if the weather is good.do you know if there is any good spots along the river and what sort of lures are the go at the moment.

Hi guys I also live near Casino, have caught about 8 bass in the last week in the richmond, I'm going to Copmanhurst in acouple of weeks, so leave some bass for me eer >:( lol, how is toonumbar fishing?
What are you guys using to catch your bass, at the moment I have caught most of mine on a bass ugly duckling.
I've been catching most of my fish on surface lures or shallow diving lures later in the afternoon. I mostly fish the top half from bells bay up.
could anyone tell me if there is anywhere to camp along the river near copmanhurst and is there much boat traffic in the river? :-?

G'day ynotaj, I dont suppose you live near Sherwood Park do you, I have seen one hornet type boat at a place around the corner from where I am building a house. As yet I have not hit the river, just got back from Awoonga chasing Barra ;D but hope to get on the river over the weekend. I normally hit the section between town and the weir (behind the Meat works) and mainly use SP's rigged on TT Rev heads. If you see this boat say g'day.

Err, I have not fished down that low so cant help with camping spots. I was working up near Tabulam and upstream this week and reports are that fish have been quiet still up that way so the lower reaches are still the go.

Hey whykickacatalong if I see that boat I'll take the bloody thing ;D lol, thats just what I want, I'm over the hill at reynolds road backmede, I don't have a boat yet :'( , over the last couple of weeks I have been going out to the old warf, some nice big holes there, I have got 7 bass, getting busy there though always running into a few other guys out there.
Mate what is your rig, a allycraft ?, nice setup, if it's ok can I contact you I would like to get some info on it.
eer yep mate plenty of space to camp there, I've camped there with another 5 couples camping in one spot and down near the boat ramp there was another 5 or 6 families, there is a flat spot to put your boat in as well as the ramp, water does get a bit low with tide run out if you don't use the ramp though. I was told that the ranger can ask you to leave after one nights camping if you get caught camping there, not sure if it has ever happened, was also told that there was a no camping sign once but it was gone when I was there last ;)

I will PM my number. It's a 4mt Stacer Bass elite which is the same hull as the Hornet.
