Whats some good fishing line for a light baitcaster outfit? Mostly just catching bass. Also should I use a leader? how long should it be? Is leader just to hide line from fish?

Quinn, I use 4 kilo spider wire with a 2 rod length leader, dont know the reasoning behind it but it works the fish wont even hit it if you only tie the braid straight to the lure :-/

Ok thanx for help, and well done at the golden lure on those jackels. For a leader do you just use normal monofilament?

A soft braid up to 10lb (I use stealth) and a clear monofilament or flurocarbon leader. Leader has several uses. Firstly it acts as a shock absorber as the braid has no stretch, secondly it gives additional abrasion resistanse and finally it it gives the lure a more natural appearance (ie a fish swimming instead of a lure being pulled by a line).

hey quinn,
I use 8lb berkley fireline with 12lb berkley vanish leader on my calcutta 100 for all of my bassing, works a treat.

Do you guys use Stren knot for tieing leader to braid? http://www.stren.com/knot11.htm Does the knot effect casting?

hey quinn, i just use normal mono and tie it on with like 2 locked blood knots tied together if that makes sense? Easiest knot i know.

I use spiderwire braid with a flurocarbon leader...I tie a bimini twist in the braid to form a double then tie the leader to that.

Years ago I fished for about 6 months with no leader just to see if it makes a difference. The only reason I put a leader back on was for the shock absorption mentioned above...a big hit sometimes ended in a big snap! The amount of fish I caught did not drop when no leader was being used.

Maybe if the fish were picky/fussy it could make a difference...but I only go looking for the active fish anyways...no time for the fish who need a good 10minutes convincing to take a lure...the active fish fight harder too ;D ;D ;D

Go spiderwire stealth, and tie your mono leader with albright knot, much smaller then anything i know and easy to tie.
