Gday all.
Ill be land based fishing at Sommerset for the first time next friday.
I know tis is far from the best way to do it, but i dont have much option so i just want to ask a couple of questions as im totally new to it.

1. Where if you had to fish land based would you try?
2. What baits or specific lures would you reccomend?
3. What could i get? Yellas? Catties? Gar? Bass?

Cheers everyone.
Excuse the newbyness of this post.

Hav'nt fished sommerset but most dams fish well on points, rocky ledges and structure all things you can see whilst walking the banks.

Try spinnerbaits with stinger hooks (second hook)
Lipless crankbaits
Surface lures dusk and dawn
Use different retrives until one works

Bait i prefer is live shrimp threaded through tail to keep alive

For bass try one 3-4 foot under a float
For yellowbelly try on bottom or close

Hope this helps

Freshwater fish in winter are less aggressive taking a bait or lure than the warmer months also

Cheers

how are you angig,i would try the banks to the right of kirkleigh boat ramp you can walk around the point to a nice drop off ,your fish you would get would be more than likely catties ,bass or yellas.the fishing has picked up a bit in this area in the last fortnight ,my mates and i use smoke yellow core sliders on light jig heads and soft and hard jackalls.all these are either hopped slowlly along the bottom or slow rolled along the bottom, also sliders in the baby bass color work also good luck cheers AL

Thanks guys i appreciate the advice!
Ill keep you informed on how i go.
A mate got 5 bass on SP's in another dam on the weekend so hopefully this could be a good generic sign.
