View Full Version : what braid for 4kg+ drag on baitcasters?  8pl

I know about braid and abrasion resistance on trees, rocks, etc, down at the lure end.

What I am interested in, is how it goes on the reel under heavy drag settings.

I have an HRF that produces 4 kg on the scales, and which has the level wind moving with the spool when releasing line under drag.

My casting practice and shed tinkerings (ok, ok :-[ but I am going to use it this month for two weeks solid) has seriously damaged the current 30lb braid. Maybe at that time the level wind was not synchronised.... but I have not had the spool out since the reel was spooled up, so don't think so.

Any thoughts much appreciated. Local tackle nut reckons 8 ply braid is much more abrasion resistant. It is apparently fairly round, and presumably as a result there is more braid, but apart from that?

Rick, i was just at my local tackle shop a few hours ago looking at reels and narrowed my decision down to the HRF or Calcutta 200B. I am interested in any input you might have once youve actually used this reel for 2 weeks solid.

Cheers

I have found that with my tinkering and mucking around with my new Daiwa Millionaire SW 203 that the same thing is happening with the 50lb Platypus Super Braid I have it loaded with. It also moves when the drag is being pulled. But I have found when your casting (Or just pulling line out) and the thwe reel is in free spool the line guide does not move and I think this is way the line is getting the top coating rubbed off.
