North side, try North Pine Dam (bank fishing) or Caboolture River.

Buy a Brisbane map book (UBD) and browse through it. It also includes Gold and North Coast.

mate if your down the gold coast way,
fish Hinze Dam,
I fish there every weekend and it fishes very well,

the bass in there are probably the closest thing to barra without going 5 hours north or so

You don't need a SIP for Hinze Dam as it is owned by the Gold Coast City Council. The permit you need can be obtained at the dam.

You don't need any permit to fish North Pine. Fishing from the bank only. Once the dam gets back to 50%+, you can get a boating permit from the local stocking group. Their web site is at http://prfma.tripod.com/index.htm

Cammy,

Other species on offer are bass, goldens, cod, saratoga, garfish & tilapia. For the first 4, try walking the banks casting lures or try bait (live shrimps best) under a float.
Bait for the last 2 again using floats.

If you do a search you should find plenty on North Pine.

hi again ;D

i have finally decided to go but there is still a lot of question bothering me.... :-[

a)how much is the permit for Hinze Bay? does the kids need to pay too?

b)what kind of gear should i use? (eg 12lbs line , size of lure etc.)

c)im new to lure and i cannot cast very far for some reason....any tips? is it because my line's too heavy or sumthing?

Thanks ;D very appreciate

From Memory Hinze Permit is $7 for a week permit.
Kids dont need a permit, only adults.

hinze is abou $7 per week or you can buy a yearly permit for $40
this can be purchased from the dam kiosk or go campin in nerang or any of the Gold Coast City Council Offices.

The dam fishes very well for bass, if you are in a boat try slow trolling with lipless crankbaits arounds the edges and around points and bays. otherwise anchor up around a steep drop or point and use fresh shrimp or worms,

i fish hinze every week and only once or twice in a few years have i gone home without catching anything, mind you they are not all 50cm fish, they probably average between 35-40 with some bigger fish 45-50 thrown in for good measure.

Although the main fish in there is bass there is also silver perch, yellowbelly, saratoga, mary river cod, eeltailed catfish and barred grunter

good luck with it,

mate Hinze is definately better from a boat or canoe/kayak.
you can cover a lot more ground as this dam is surrounded by high grassy banks, thus there is only a small section where you can fish from the banks.

however I used to fish the bank with reasonable success.
when you get to the dam go across the wall to the western boat ramp and then walk down as close to the wall as possible, cast out there however you need bait as lures is really hard from there and you run a risk of snagging a few. also you can walk from this ramp around to the entrance to the quary. I have also caught plenty of bass from this spot with baits.

good luck with it all mate
