View Full Version : Wilson sure catch reels
Hi Everyone
I have not heard anything about the wilson surecath reels. Has anyone had any experience with them? I am just interested to get some idea of the experiences of fellow anglers with these reels.
Thanks
Ian
i bought one about 3 year ago in a surf rod combo ($100). i figured i would thow it away when i had run it into the ground. im still trying. some dearer reels would have disintergrated after what it has been through.
Hi Mick
What model reel have you got? I have heard from others that say they are an excellent value for money reel and from what you say it sounds like they are right.

Ian

I have a surecatch overhead and while the reel is sturdy enough, the drag is a real letdown. It has never been smooth even with a new set of washers in it.
If I could get the drag to work ok I am sure I would be really happy with it - but I wish I had got an Abu 7000 instead!
Cheers
Steve.
i can make out "GHOST" and "LONG CAST" the rest is worn away

hi all, hey stevecan you can improve the drag on your surecatch the same way as you can improve the drag on your abu 7000.i own both and have done the following.while both drag systems are designed to run dry i have found that by dissassembling them and coating each washer with a smear of reel lube grease upon reassembly gives tremendous improvement.to go that one step further i substitute the last drag washer for one that i cut out of the fine leather you get on riggers gloves and impregnate this with grease.by doing this i have a drag that max is about 6kg on the abu 7000 but from 0 to 6kg it is as smooth as a babies bum.i have tried the extreme smoothy washer kits and can honestly say that the grease and leather is just as smooth if not smoother.it also does not deteriorate during battle or over the course of a day.i did my mates surecatch and he has gone from being reluctant to use it to loving it.since then i have done several abu 6500 with the same success.stuttering drag systems are something you do not have to tolerate and can be fixed for next to nothing.
i refurbished my abu drag with toothpaste.
