I owned two of these rods - an 8 kg spin stik and a 4 kg baitcaster. I believe he makes rods to both top-of-the-range and mid-range cost/quality. I also believe that he does not make all/any of the rods himself but either sub-contracts or has employees in a factory doing the rods. Either way, I have had no problems with them and found them to be an excellent product.

I love a couple of Gary Howard Custom Interceptor Strokers I fish with. #Not sure what blank they are built on but they were compeitive in price with factory rods as most of my rods are factory rods. #They are standing the test of time better with regard bindings and varnish.

And I forgot about a couple of spin sticks I use as well. Have used a couple of Hervey Bay Spins and one Moreton Bay spin. Thought they were done on Live Fibres because of the red colour but have since been told they are on Albagraphs. They really pelt the slugs out, are light and have balls down low where you want it. Bit like the Interceptors.

Daniel,

Have 2 G.Howards. A Sabre 15kg and a Spotty Mack. The Spotty Mack was my favourite until I broke it foolishly on a big Mack Tuna. It casts better than the equivalent G.Loomis (L904 - a bit light and L905 which is a bit heavy..) The sabre has also knocked over a couple of prize fish.

Overall I think the Gary Howard rods are good value of money rods which are purpose built for the SEQ fishing environment.

I dont think you'll be dissapointed.

Cheers
George

So far my new Gary Howard 644 loomis has performed faultlessly.
It's landed 4 30lb plus barras in the past week ,no problemo.
The finish is excellent ...

Just to add my two cents worth, I have 3 gary howards and they are all excellent - when I go to buy a good rod, I look at his first. My most highly prized gear is a GH 10kg knobby thumper, It is a heavy spin stick finished with kevlar wrap - supposedly unbreakable. I also have a 4 wrap 10'6 breambo which is a brilliant whiting rod, and a custom made 12' 9144 jewie/shark rod for the rocks and breakwalls, the only problem is after a few hours holding it you can barely move your arms. I'd definitely recommend his rods to anyone.
