Picked up a new lure on the weekend from a mate - he's making them. Looks like it would work a treat outside on them toothy critters.
He's calling it a HooBait.
I reckon I'll rig it with wire and tow it on 50lb when I'm next out from Bribie and see what might be interested.

The problem I can see it facing is not getting the bites, its staying connected, lots of places on that lure with no hook points. But, it looks like it may well be big enough to scare a mactuna off, thumbs up for that!

I got no experience with the big uns.
Hey Rob you want to try it?? I don't think I have any gear suitable to drag this thing around. Got an Abu 7000 with about 250m 50lb braid ????

The abu will be fine, have you got a rod that will not flex too much with 4kg of drag?
It might make a good teaser for the billy you wanted Dave :)

It looks very similar to a bunch of lures I've used on the outer reefs off gladstone.
We towed those on 24 Kilo Standup tackle for big Dogtooth and Wahoo etc.
One thing. We ended up rubber banding the forward swinging hook up along the body as we just didnt get good hookups with it swinging. Also, the ones we used were close to $50 each and we lost about 4 each to big Dogtooth. YIKES !
I have a large Billy Bonito that is absolutely MAULED with large teeth marks all over it from Doggies and large Barracoutta.

Big lure big fish. I'm too stingey to hand $50 worth of lure out the back just so a fish can swim away with it. :D :D
Reckon they'll go OK if I can get out on Britomart again this year, on the hinchy trip. 8)

Hi Wayne
Do you recomend rubber banding the foward hooks on most of the big hard bodied lures

I wouldn't, tina- billy etc being exceptions, they do donuts ;)

Agree with mack Mauler. Dont band the smaller bibbed lures.
I usually band up anything over about 15cm in the Bibless only for the hookup ratio improving.
Cheers
