Have just purchased an old spinning reel and would like to know the name and any othe info I can gather.
I t has a rather large bail arm that is connected to the handle winding mechanism on one side of the reel. This is it's unique feature and gives a very neat line wrap onto the spool. The spool almost looks like a forward facing alvey shuvved onto a spinning reel. Does anybody know what brand this is? Please help?

Hi Gator
sounds very much like a sea martin (had one for twenty years, does'nt mind a swim in the salt water after falling in the sand, basicly still going strong after all that abuse, some line twist, good off the beach, dragsnot real good though). I also think Mitchal made a similar rear about the sme era. hope this helps
cheers

G'Day Blaze,
Thanks for your reply. You were spot on! I Have since found out it is in fact a SeaMartin. Apparently they are still producing them. Interesting to here about the line twist. What's biting in Tassie? The Mack Tuna are going sick at Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast. There are some Mackerel and some bruiser Longtails amongst them as well. Thanks again
Gator.

Hey Gator, those Seamartins are great reels.. ive got a pair of them.. and they would be a few years old.. atleast 20.. only thing that was needed done to them was a new drag.. heh.. other then that they are strong as hell.. they are also a great reel for bottom dropping and trolling for tuna and mack because they are all grunt.. and nothing to break...
Good purchase
Tim

Hi Gator
Yep they are a fine reel (thomas winch), only ever seen one bust the gears(one of my mates, drag lock up with 80 pound mono). When I first got mine (about 20 odd years ago) the line was quite thick( even in say 15 pound) and I had no line twist problems to speak of, but since the lines have become thinner the problem arouse. I just run the smallest swivell for line class I can & some times run it out in the paddock or footyground, might try braid one day. I dont use it much nowdays as Ive been using a tica eggbeateron my surf rod off the rocks, but the seamartin is the go for the beach

Hi Jack
thats the seamartin, that one looks like its got 50 pound line on the bugger. top reel, they nned to be washed in salt water at least once a week(more if possible) dropped in the sand regulaly and generally abused and they will then last for bloody years
cheers
