need advice

Hey,
I'm new to this forum and to fishing in general. I also posted this in the general page. I am looking at buying a rod and reel. I will mainly be fishing off the pier in melbourne in the bay and occasionally going for bigger fish on a boat. I will be targetting whiting, flathead, bream etc.

I was just wondering what type of rod i should be going for.

Should i go light or medium action?

Should i get a spinning rod?

What length should i go for?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hang around your intended fishing spot and watch what others use, particularly if they are catching something worthwhile. Most fishermen are happy to tell you what works for them.

However, the best investment you can make to accellerate your learning curve is a membership in a local fishing club. Find a good one and you'll never look back.
