Hi Jdee,

the most important consideration when choosing a fishing rod is what line strength you will be using. I'd guess around 4-6 kg (8-12 lb) for murray cod, trout, redfin etc, although you could go lighter. Other considerations are whether you will mainly be using bait or casting lures. Why do you want a 5' rod? Most spin rods are 6-7', and the longer length gives better casting distance and control over a fish when landing it. You should be able to find a good two-piece rod for $60-$100, but sometimes you can find cheaper rods that are OK. I am sure your local tackle shop should be able to help you.

THANKS JEREMY - REASON I NEED A SHORT ROD IS MY DISABILITY FIND IT EASIER TO HANDLE ETC. AT THE MOMENT USE AN OLD JURO HUME 5'3" AND HAVE JUST PICKED UP A SHIMANO 5'6". HAVE BEEN THROUGH A NUMBER OF CATALOGUES FOR 5 FOOTERS (SELL A BIT OF TACKLE THROUGH MY KNIFE SHOP) BUT UNABLE TO COME UP WITH ANYTHING IN THE POPULAR BRANDS.
