Saratoga

The saratoga is one of the oldest known living species. Its history can be traced back through fossils for millions of years.

This average size specimen was taken on a Dahlberg diver surface fly by Dave Downie at Borumba Dam. During the day fish were seen to feed on small purple dragon flies, so a hasty imitation was tied during the evening around the camp fire after the first day failed to produce a strike.

There is a bag limit of two fish in your possession however as they are not particularly good eating most anglers release them. Growing to about 8lb they are a spectacular fighter. Most saratoga put on an aerial display leaping many times before reaching the net.
