Snapper and Whiting caught at Cape Jervis, South Australia. It shows (left to right) Mike, Andrew McDonald and myself with the results of a good days fishing at Cape Jervis, South Australia. Andrews boat is Quintrex Bay Raider, powered by a 90hp Yamaha outboard. A large boat is necessary in these waters, as the weather conditions can become quite rough in this area. The largest snapper weighed 15.0kg with the other large ones being 13kg and 12kg specimens. The whiting were in the 40-48cm range and came on the bite prior to the snapper. The largest snapper was the first one caught. Bait for the snapper was pilchards. Whiting bait was cockles (or pipis), gathered from Goolwa beach during the cockle season. Cape Jervis holds some very deep water which channels between the mainland and Kangaroo Island.
